South East Cornwall – Towns & Villages of the Caradon Area

South East Cornwall – the old district of Caradon – stretches from the southern fringes of Bodmin Moor down to the Tamar Valley and the fishing harbours of the south coast. Liskeard is the area’s main market town, Saltash stands at the gateway to Cornwall across the Tamar from Plymouth, and Callington lies beneath Kit Hill on the edge of the Tamar Valley.

Along the coast, Looe, Polperro and Polruan keep their harbours and narrow, winding streets, with Talland Bay tucked between them. To the east, Cawsand and Kingsand look out over Plymouth Sound from the Rame Peninsula, and St Germans lies quietly on its creek off the Lynher.

Inland, the granite moorland around Minions holds the Cheesewring and the Hurlers stone circles, with St Cleer, St Neot and Cardinham on the moor’s southern edge. The Tamar Valley villages of Calstock and Gunnislake follow the river north – once busy with mining traffic, now popular for walking and cycling.
