Summerleaze Beach
Summerleaze Beach is adjacent to the canal lock gates, the river neet,
barrel rock and the breakwater. This is a firm favourite with families,
either surfing in the Atlantic breakers, or simply paddling or catching
crabs in the gentle flowing waters of the river Neet, which flows across
the beach to the sea. Small fishing boats lie up on the sand in front
of Bude's lock gates - in the shelter of the breakwater.
Across the sands, on the North side of the
beach, Beach huts are available for hire and there is an open-air sea
pool is popular with families. At high tide there is large stretch of
beach that is available backed by a section of sand dunes. Children
love to explore the dunes and hide amongst the marram grass. Summerleaze
has a large car park (plus toilet facilities) adjoining the beach.
Crooklets Beach
Crooklets Beach is slightly
overshadowed by the magnificent Summerleaze beach and a little pebbly
in places; Bude's Crooklets Beach is a large expanse of golden sand
and rock pools - at low tide. Located, just a little way along the coast
from Summerleaze, the beach is very popular with surfers and the Bude
Surf Life Saving Club (Britain’s First) is based at the beach.
Crooklets beach has a café on the sea front and car parking,
public toilets and an outdoor shower. Beach huts are also available
for hire at Crooklets.
Bude Harbour
Bude is still a picturesque working harbour, with a few small fishing boats
using the tidal harbour as a base - sheltering in the calmer waters
