St Ives is an ideal

St Ives is based around its small picturesque tidal harbour
- at low tide children can play on the harbour beach. Boat trips regularly

Porthmeor Beach
The main family and surfing beach
in St Ives. Porthmeor is a favourite with surfers. The beach is level
with good quality sand - with life guards on duty in The summer months.
Porthmeor has a restaurant on The beach, as well as cafes and Gift shops
in The narrow streets that radiate from it. The Tate Gallery is
situated adjacent to Porthmeor.
Porthgwidden Beach
a small beach, set in a small sheltered cove, between "The Island"
and St Ives harbour. Very popular beach, with a very good cafe. Excellent
for families, with safe bathing.
St Ives Harbour Beach
< St Ives harbour is tidal.
As The tide recedes it reveals a level sandy expanse of beach in The centre
of St Ives, very popular with families plus all The amenities cafes, etc.
that you need along its western edge.
Porthminster Beach
The second largest beach in St Ives - Porthminster is located to The south
of The harbour and has a north eastern aspect.

In The 19th and 20th century St I ves attracted many
artists to The area, in part due to The special light created by its location
on The Cornish Peninsula - this has left a positive legacy for St Ives
and The surrounding area - creating an artistic heritage unique to South
West Cornwall Artists such as Barbara Hepworth (Barbara Hepworth
Museum and Sculpture Garden) and Ben Nicholson took up residence
in The town and Bernard Leach established his pottery in St Ives
in 1920.
TheTate
Gallery St Ives ( adjacent to Porthmeor surfing beach) was established
in recognition of this heritage and St Ives' contribution to art, and
especially to The role that St Ives played in British Modernism . The
Tate St Ives offers has a nationally important, permanent collection of
art form this period with regular exhibitions.
