The perfect location

The Penellen Bed and Breakfast is located just yards from the golden sands of St Ives Bay.

Three miles of golden soft sand stretching all the way to Godrevy Lighthouse with panoramic views of St Ives and Carbis Bay.

St Ives Bay is one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in Cornwall, located on the north coast between St Ives, Hayle, and Godrevy. The bay is renowned for its sweeping three-mile golden sand beach, which curves gently along the shoreline and offers uninterrupted views across the Atlantic Ocean. Its wide, open sands make it ideal for long walks, beach games, and simply relaxing by the sea while enjoying the fresh coastal air.

The bay is backed by rolling dunes and low grassy cliffs, creating a natural and unspoilt landscape that changes with the tides. At low tide, vast areas of firm sand are exposed, perfect for walking towards Godrevy Lighthouse, one of Cornwall’s most iconic landmarks. The lighthouse sits on a rocky island just offshore and is famous for inspiring Virginia Woolf’s novel “To the Lighthouse.”

St Ives Bay is also popular with surfers, swimmers, and wildlife enthusiasts. The consistent Atlantic swell provides good surfing conditions, while the calmer areas are suitable for paddling and family beach days. Seals, seabirds, and occasional dolphins can often be spotted offshore, adding to the sense of natural beauty and tranquillity.

With its combination of dramatic scenery, wide sandy beaches, and proximity to charming coastal towns, St Ives Bay remains one of Cornwall’s most loved and picturesque seaside destinations.
