Mousehole Harbour, Mousehole, Cornwall, TR19 6PS

Mousehole, the 500-year-old fishing village on Mount's Bay, hosts the Sea, Salts & Sail Festival (SS&S) — a free, entirely volunteer-run maritime festival that returns each summer to fill the harbour with historic vessels. In 2026 the festival celebrates its 30th anniversary, having grown from a single-day gathering in 1996 into one of Cornwall's most distinctive maritime events. The next festival runs over the long weekend of Friday 3 to Sunday 5 July 2026.

More than 40 traditional wooden vessels, rigged with spars and tanned sails, sail in from around Mount's Bay and beyond to line the harbour walls beside Mousehole's 500-year-old granite harbour entrance, before setting out together for an impressive "parade of sail" — a sight that stirs the heart of even the most hardened landlubber. It's a genuinely photogenic event that draws tall ship skippers and maritime enthusiasts from across the region each year.

Stalls line the quay selling gifts and local produce, and there's plenty to eat and drink, with live music running late into the night across genres from folk and sea shanties to bluegrass, jazz and swing. Craft and heritage demonstrations add to the atmosphere — rope-work, traditional pot-making and boatbuilding skills among them — alongside sculling races and guided heritage walks around the village.

Children can get properly hands-on too, building and racing model "Corker" boats across the harbour, alongside a full programme of family-friendly activities run by the 200-plus volunteers who make the festival happen. On a typical festival day, the harbour, quay and beaches fill with families enjoying the sights and sounds — eating, dancing, laughing and taking photographs — bringing together all ages in a celebration of Cornwall's maritime heritage.

Visitor Information

Parking

North Quay Car Park is the main pay-and-display option right by the harbour, open year-round. South Quay Car Park adds extra spaces over summer months (it's used for boat storage in winter). Mousehole's streets are narrow and get very busy during the festival, so arrive early, or park uphill in nearby Paul and walk down.

Facilities

Public toilets at North Quay are open all year round; South Quay toilets operate seasonally (March–September, plus the Christmas lights period). The village itself has pubs, cafes, galleries and shops, with food and drink stalls added around the harbour for the festival.

Disabled Access

The North Quay toilets include disabled facilities. The harbour quays themselves have an uneven walking surface, which may be a hazard for some visitors, and the village's narrow pavements can be tricky for wheelchairs and pushchairs during busy festival crowds.

Visit the official Sea, Salts & Sail Festival website for the full programme, guest vessel list and any last-minute changes.
