Kernow Coasteering is Cornwall's most westerly coasteering centre, running AALA-licensed adventures that combine swimming, scrambling and cliff-jumping along some of the county's most dramatic granite coastline. Founded in 2013 by lifelong adventurer Matt George, the company has since guided more than 14,000 people across 830+ coasteering sessions, 220+ trips to the Isles of Scilly and 140+ rock climbing sessions — and picked up a TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice award in 2024 along the way.
The flagship route runs from Praa Sands, the wide sandy beach between Porthleven and Penzance, where over 30 jumps — ranging from a gentle 2 metres up to adrenaline-fuelled 10-metre-plus leaps — sit alongside sea caves, gullies and rock arches that are only reachable from the water. No two sessions are quite the same: conditions and tides shape every trip, whether you're threading arches near Land's End, exploring hidden caves close to Penzance, or tackling the more remote routes around the Isles of Scilly.
All specialist equipment is provided — a full-length winter wetsuit, helmet and buoyancy aid — so you just need to bring lace-up shoes you don't mind getting wet, swimwear, a towel and a spare pair of shorts to wear over the wetsuit. Sessions run for around 2.5-3 hours in the water, led by an experienced team of guides. No previous coasteering experience is necessary, but you'll need to be a confident open-water swimmer, and the minimum age is 9 (under-14s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian; the more advanced Land's End route has a 16-plus minimum).
Coasteering suits pretty much anyone looking for an adrenaline-tinged day out — families, groups of friends, stag and hen parties, school groups and corporate team-building events all book in regularly. Sessions start from £50 per person, with the same rate for adults and children, and group discounts may be available on request. Beyond coasteering, Kernow Coasteering also runs rock climbing instruction (minimum age 5) and boat trips over to the Isles of Scilly for those wanting to extend the adventure further afield.

Facilities
Public toilets are located near the car parks and beach entrance (50p charge). The Sandbar Beach Café, a general store and a surf shop are all nearby, and the beach has seasonal lifeguard cover at Easter, May-September and October half-term.
Disabled Access
Praa Sands itself has easy-level slipway access onto the beach, but coasteering is a physically demanding water activity involving swimming, scrambling and climbing over rocks, so it isn't suitable for wheelchair users. Contact Kernow Coasteering directly to discuss individual access needs.
