The Point is a delightful house in
the peaceful and charming village of Flushing. The garden is terraced
leading down to the beach. There are extensive
views over Falmouth Harbour to the south, the Penryn River to the
west and eastward is the open sea.
Whilst convalescing in Falmouth from wounds
received during the First World War, architect Cecil Burns drew up plans
to construct The Point - a spectacular 1920's villa built on the headland
at the very end of Flushing village. Cecil's architects practice is still
going strong in Tunbridge Wells, & three generations later The Point remains
very much a part of the family.
Commanding unrivalled views
across the water towards Falmouth and out towards St Anthony's lighthouse,
The Point will make any holiday one to be remembered for many years to
come.
The Point sleeps six in
three bedrooms, with a comfortable double sofa-bed for occasional
use. The master bedroom has a king-sized double bed, the second bedroom
has twin beds, and the third bedroom is a double. It has two lounges,
one formal and one a fresh new addition to the property, and a spacious
modern kitchen. It has two bathrooms, and a further wc.
Every room has extensive
sea views towards Falmouth & out to sea that are quite simply mesmerising.
Many hours can be spent watching the comings & goings in the busy harbour
from The Point.
The gardens are a particular
feature at The Point. To the side of the property is a secluded terraced
area perfect for alfresco dining. The upper area of the garden is laid
to lawn with flower beds which lead down to a decked
dining area with spectacular views across the bay, over to Falmouth
Maritime Museum and the marina, and onwards out to sea.
The Point even has it's
own private access to the beach, via steps at the bottom of the garden!
The beach is a mixture of sand and shingle and is perfect for playing
with the kids or just relaxing. There is a small area of grass further
along the beach suitable for picnics. There is even a mooring for those
who choose to arrive by boat!
Private parking for two
cars is available outside the house. There are fantastic walks from
The Point around the headland to Mylor Yacht Harbour, and Flushing Beach
is dog-friendly all year.
Many Cornish villages have become over crowded with tourists,
but Flushing is much quieter, even during peak season, and it still benefits
from a strong and vibrant community. It has two pubs serving great food,
a bistro / café on the quayside, and a well-stocked general store. A passenger
ferry runs a regular service between Flushing and Falmouth. It also connects
with the ferries to St Mawes, Mylor, Trelissick and Truro. In summer the
Fal River boats offer trips to the gardens of Trebah and Glendurgan, and
onwards to Truro. A local water taxi service also runs around the bay.
