Boscastle, Cornwall
Boscastle is well located on the Cornish coast, and is an ideal location for exploring the coastal path and the picturesque villages along this stretch of coastline.
The surfing beach of Polzeath and the family beaches of Rock and Daymer Bay, on the Camel Estuary, are just a short drive away.
Crackington Haven with its popular sandy beach set in a sheltered cove, is only a few miles along the coast. The large Surfing beach of Widemouth bay and the holiday resort of Bude, are located just a few miles further east along the coast - approximately 20 min. by car.
Tintagel and Trebarwith Strand are just a short trip down the coast from Boscastle. Tintagel is always popular- due to the ruined castle's link to Camelot and the Arthurian Legends. The promontory castle, which is managed by English Heritage, is set on a clifftop and accessed by a small bridge that spans the gap between the rocky outcrop and the mainland. Trebarwith Strand is a stunning beach which is very popular with families. The beach, which is completely covered at high tide, is only revealed as the tide recedes.
The village of Port Isaac and its much photographed harbour is located near Polzeath, just 7 miles from Boscastle. Port Isaac, of Doc Martin fame, is always busy - but it is always worth a trip down to the heart of the village to explore the narrow streets and the pretty harbour. All of the villages in this coastal strip are surrounded by stunning coastal walks.
Further down the coast, is the harbour town of Padstow and the Camel Trail - a Cycle route leading down to Wadebridge and then onto Bodmin Moor. Padstow is another very popular holiday destination, with a pretty working harbour surrounded by narrow streets where you will find numerous gift shops, cafes and galleries. Padstow has many local beaches, Trevone, Harlyn and Constantine, to name a few.
