The Focsle is an atmospheric apartment situated on the beachfront of Porthmeor Beach, St Ives, UK. This listed building overlooks the crashing waves and rocky headlands of the beach. Within sight of The Tate Gallery and an easy walk from the galleries of St Ives, the apartment is ideal for art lovers and surfers alike.

ACCOMMODATION

The apartment in common with many St Ives houses has an inverted floor plan. The living rooms are on the upper floor to capture the views and the bedrooms are on the lower floor. The apartment is centrally heated and double glazed throughout.

The upper floor consists of two large rooms, both have high ceilings, exposed beams and polished wood floors. The lounge is an open light room with a fantastic view over the sea. The sofa in the lounge can be converted into a bed. The kitchen/breakfast room is a large room allowing a family to eat in comfort and have the usual cooking facilities. The entrance to the apartment is into the upper floor.

The lower floor contains of a master bedroom, a second bedroom and a bathroom. The lower floors are reached by stairs from the upper floor.

The apartment backs directly onto the Porthmeor Beach. The beach is very shallow, however the surf is often strong making it ideal for exhilarating swimming and of course surfing. Seals can often be seen off of the beach and in the summer the sunsets over the sea are spectacular.

The apartment is reached from the road by a passage way under a terrace of houses and a flight of stone steps. Hence the reason for the name of The Focsle Down Under. The outside of the apartment away from the beach is a traditional mixture of granite walling for the lower floor and gray tiles for the upper floor.

LOCATION

The Focsle is just a few minutes walk from the the harbour and centre of St Ives.

The rear exit of the apartment leads to Back Road West and Porthmeor Road. The Penwith Gallery, exhibition space to the Penwith Society of Artists can be found immediately on Portmeor Road. Further along Porthmeor Road (to the right as you exit The Focsle) can be found St Ives School of Painting, The Tate Gallery, the School of surfing and The Porthmeor Beach Cafe. If you turn to the left along Porthmeor Street you soon reach Porthgwiden Beach. If you carry straight on over Porthmeor Road you will quickly reach the Harbour and Fore Street with numerous restaurants and art galleries.
