Portreath is a small friendly Cornish village set
in in a valley on the North coast. The village is surrounded by National
Trust countryside. Portreath is an ideal base for exploring Cornwall we
are approx. 20 minutes from Falmouth, Truro and St Ives, 40 minutes from
the Eden Project and Padstow. The coast to coast cycle path follows the
old "Mineral Tramways" tram track once used for transportation
from Portreath to Devoran. The area is now part of the UNESCO World Heritage
Site for its importance during the tin mining industry, with its once busy
port bringing in coal and sending tin and minerals around the world. It
is now a sleepy port, home to fishing and pleasure boats
Portreath has a sheltered beach with many tidal sea
water pools on either side, filling each time the tide comes in. Ideal to
explore and swim in.
